Sambalpur Railway Station, located in the Indian state of Odisha, serves Sambalpur in Sambalpur district. There are four other railway stations serving Sambalpur – Sambalpur Road Railway Station(SBPD), Sambalpur City Railway Station(SBPY), Hirakud (HKG), across the Mahanadi and Maneswar Railway Station(MANE). Locally this station is called Khetrajpur Railway Station since it is located in that area of the city. ==History== In 1960, Indian Railway took up three projects: the Kottavalasa-Koraput-Jeypore-Kirandaul line (Dandakaranya Project), the Titlagarh-Bolangir-Jharsuguda Project and the Rourkela-Kiriburu Project. All the three projects taken together were popularly known as the DBK Project or the Dandakaranya Bolangir Kiriburu Project. The Sambalpur-Titlagarh line was opened to traffic in 1963. The Sambalpur-Talcher line was sanctioned in 1983 and was completed in 1998.
